Seven Terraces

Seven Terraces
Seven Terraces is a remarkable collection of contiguous Anglo-Chinese terrace houses constructed in the late 19th century, tucked just behind the Goddess of Mercy Temple. Today, these houses stand as a shining example of adaptive heritage building reuse, originally characterized by low density and minimal impact on their surroundings.

The architecture of these shophouses boasts classical decorative elements imported from England and closely resembles the traditional urban house models found in southern China. Upon entering these terrace houses, you’ll immediately notice and appreciate the open courtyards and air wells at their core—a distinctive feature of traditional Chinese architecture. These courtyards are paved with massive granite slabs, imbuing the space with character and warmth. These granite slabs were recycled from the ballast carried by trading junks, which deposited the stones at the Penang port at the end of their return voyages.

At Seven Terraces, the shophouses, though relatively shorter in stature, remain highly functional. Each measures approximately 100 feet in length and features an open-air courtyard. This design lends a sense of spaciousness to the rooms, creating a welcoming living environment. They have been ingeniously transformed into expansive suites on the first floor, with two suites in each shophouse. The ground floor has been converted into a public space housing the reception area, swimming pool, lounge, and Kebaya Restaurant, all conveniently located for your enjoyment.

Why you should choose to stay at Seven Terraces:

  • Suitable for family vacation, the largest room type can occupy up to 9 adults.
